Friends of the Farmers Market Blacksburg enjoys one of the few year-round farmers markets in the region. Dozens of vendors gather in Market Square Park at the corner of Roanoke St. and Draper Ave. to offer local fruits, herbs, meats and vegetables, as well as handcrafted items like furniture, soaps textiles, breads and more. FFM helps to sponsor musicians, cooking demos, delicious meals and other events at the market.
League of Women Voters of Montgomery County The League is a non-partisan political organization that encourages the informed and active participation of citizens in government and influences public policy through education and advocacy. The League of Women Voters of Montgomery County was founded in 1971 and has been a leader in voter registration and education ever since.
The Lyric Theater The jewel in the crown of Blacksburg’s downtown arts district is this 1929 art deco cinema. It offers independent and foreign films on a regular weekly basis and a variety of live music, theatre, and other events. The Lyric is also home to year-round educational programs, ranging from conferences and academic lectures to theatre and video camps. Volunteers get in free!
PRAYS (Presbyterians at Your Service) A "home-repair ministry" that seeks to provide safe, warm, and habitable homes for the economically disadvantaged in the New River Valley. PRAYS is dedicated to following the mission and vision of Blacksburg Presbyterian Church, especially as a "church in the world . . . boldly addressing human need through social action."
Sustainable Blacksburg Sustainable Blacksburg is a collaborative community partnership formed to promote effective environmental stewardship in the Blacksburg area to enhance the region’s livability and economic vitality by reducing its impact on the local and global environment. Members represent local government, Virginia Tech, university student organizations, local businesses, architectural and engineering firms, and non-profit organizations. Advisory Group meetings are held at the Price House at 5 pm on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month. All interested persons are invited to attend.
YMCA at Virginia Tech Founded in 1873, the YMCA at Virginia Tech proudly serves all walks of life in the community through adult education, after-school children's programs, tutoring, international services, the Thrift Shops, and other community services. Today, this independent non-profit, is one of the most respected and flourishing campus YMCA programs in the country. No Pool . . . No Gym – Just 130 years of leadership and service! |
